Zouzou Nicoloudi Costume Collection

A study and cataloguing of the costume collection of the archive of Greek dancer and choreographer Zouzou Nicoloudi (1917‐2004), based at the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece.

Zouzou Nicoloudi’s archive was donated to the Benaki Museum by her family after the choreographer passed away; it consists of documents, notes, performance programmes and costumes.

The curatorial work on the costume items belonging to the archive took place between March 2018 and January 2019 and resulted to the organization of a costume collection. The collection includes costumes (garments and parts thereof), costume accessories (masks, belts, hats, etc.) and stage props (e.g. torches and musical instruments).

The first phase of the work focused on the identification, classification and cataloguing of these items summarized in a research report with a preliminary evaluation of the work, presented at the 8th Symposium of the Hellenic Costume Society in February 2019.
